Designers inspired
In project "Designers Inspiring" we investigated natural phenomena. These formed the three themes of this project: Storm, Volcanoes and water. Together with five other team members, we released the collection "Angry Nature."

The inspiration

As mentioned earlier, the themes for this project are atmosphere, volcano and water. These can be very destructive when disturbed, but can also be very beautiful and serene. In addition, these phenomena plague our earth more and more, due to current environmental pollution.
So how do we see beauty in this?
Well, the colors and shapes have inspired us to create six different top pieces and we are as sustainable as possible with our materials. Finally, we were also inspired by the non-profit organization: the one percent for the planet. it gives 1% of the profits made to three good causes.
In this project I mainly focused on volcanoes: how the lava slides off the mountain, solidifies and the layering of the snow on dormant volcanoes. My main source of inspiration was Mount Fuji, a well-known volcano in Japan.
What is Angry Nature?
Earth and its phenomena, which are central to our Angry Nature brand, are both an inspiration for our vision and ideas as well as for the designs that result.
Nature, being the greatest artist, serves as a model for our organic style. Like nature, there is a layering in our work; we have adopted the downy of clouds, the rippling of water and the flowing of lava in our collection.
Our brand plays with the ethereal and the naive of what a better world could look like. At the same time, hard elements also appear in our designs. This hardness shows where there is still a need for improvement.
With our brand, we hope to change attitudes within an industry where fashion giants place their profits above the welfare of their workers and the environment time and time again.
Brand Identity
For who is this brand designed?
As a brand, we focus mainly on young women. We are a passionate brand striving for change within our sector and set this change in motion through our way of working and our connection with 1% for the planet. Anyone who likes our designs is also welcome to join us. We mainly target environmentally and fashion-conscious individuals who share sustainability and our love for this planet

My process through samples
Like any design process, I started looking for inspiration and information. I then translated this into a sketch together with our drawing artist Luna Schoysman. We arrived at this outline through constant feedback and adjustments. Then I converted the sketch into a technical drawing in Adobe Illustrator. You can view this on request.

Then I started making a first sample. This consists of recycled cotton and has an unbleached look. After making some adjustments to this sample, I started working with the right materials. This prototype contains the following materials; orange cotton poplin, gray chiffon, light blue chiffon and dark blue chiffon. In addition, I finished the chiffon completely with white rolled hems. These represent the small layers of snow on the rocks of the volcano. I also used orange yarn and an orange spiral zipper.
My design in Angry Nature

My design is inspired by volcanoes, specifically Mount Fuji in Honshu, Japan. It's a top piece and it contains several elements that refer to the volcano. On the front, there are ruffled strips of chiffon sewn on. These refer to the mountain itself and the layers of snow that lie on the mountain for about 5 months in the year. You can also observe the transition from snow to mountain through the light blue strips between the grey snow and the dark blue mountain. On the back, there are also ruffled chiffon strips sewn on, however, these refer to the flowing off and solidification of the lava.
The last time Fujiyama erupted is from 1707 to 1708, so unfortunately there are no images of this. I have focused on volcanoes that have recently erupted, such as Sangay (Ecuador), Great Sitkin (United States) and Lewotolok (Indonesia). These are similar stratovolcanoes that are also part of the famous 'Ring of Fire'.
